Friendly, professional children’s eyecare

Don’t let poor eyesight restrict your child – start their eye care now.

Looking after children’s eyesight is something we care about deeply. Good vision plays a key role in learning, confidence and day-to-day life, so regular eye examinations are just as important for children as they are for adults.

Many children don’t know how to describe what they see, or that what they’re seeing isn’t quite right, so routine checks help us ensure they have the visual clarity and comfort they need to thrive.

We’ve been caring for families across Woodford, South Woodford, Buckhurst Hill and Chigwell for over 35 years, and we love welcoming younger patients into the practice. Our warm, friendly approach helps children relax, and we always take things at their pace.

Eye examinations for children

Children’s eye examinations are gentle, clear and reassuring. There’s no need to worry about your child “getting something wrong” – these appointments are designed to assess how their eyes are developing, how well they work together, and whether any support is needed.

Most children are eligible for NHS-funded eye examinations, and if glasses are needed, they may also receive an NHS voucher contribution towards the cost of frames.

Signs your child may need an eye examination include:

Squinting or sitting very close to screens

Rubbing their eyes frequently

Complaining of headaches

Struggling to read the board at school

But any children show no visible signs at all, which is why regular checks are so important.

Contact lenses for children and teens

For older children and teenagers, contact lenses can be a wonderful option for sport, confidence and freedom from glasses. If your child is interested, we’ll guide them through the fitting process gently and help them learn to manage their lenses safely and responsibly.

We also offer myopia management, a specialist approach used to help slow the progression of short-sightedness during childhood. This can include specially designed glasses or contact lenses.

Children’s eyewear: comfortable, durable and fun

We know that children’s glasses need to do more than correct vision; they need to fit well, feel comfortable, and stand up to everyday play.

Our children’s eyewear collection includes a range of styles and fits, including:

  • Rockstar – Bright, stylish and fun frames that children love to choose for themselves.
  • Miraflex – Flexible, durable frames with no metal parts, ideal for little ones who need something comfortable and hard-wearing.

Our team will help your child find frames that feel good and look great, with lenses chosen to suit their lifestyle and prescription.

We always take the time to:

  • Explain things clearly and simply
  • Encourage questions
  • Make each child feel at ease

Your child’s eye health is important to us, and we’ll always recommendwhat is best for them.
